Senior Python & Databricks Developer

Join the newly formed Risk Accumulation Management Platform (RAMP) team. We are seeking a Senior Python & Databricks Developer with strong hands-on skills, an independent mindset and a focus on high-quality delivery.

This role covers data pipelines, APIs, calculations and integrations supporting risk accumulation, catastrophe modelling and exposure management use cases.

This position is planned as an initial one-year assignment.

Your role
As Senior Python & Databricks Developer, your main responsibilities will involve: 

• Design, build and deploy Python-based data products, services and applications.
• Develop robust ETL pipelines in Databricks for risk, exposure and modelling data.
• Translate complex business rules and calculation logic into clear, maintainable and tested code.
• Build APIs and integration services for real-time, near-real-time and batch data use cases.
• Design and optimise data models, Delta tables and Lakehouse workflows.
• Improve pipeline and service performance, scalability, reliability and cost efficiency.
• Implement data validation, monitoring, logging, alerting and automated testing.
• Troubleshoot complex data and production issues, identify root causes and deliver sustainable fixes.
• Apply software engineering practices, including Git, CI/CD, code reviews and technical documentation.
• Work closely with data engineers, architects, technology teams and business stakeholders.
• Share knowledge and build reusable components to reduce dependencies on key individuals.

Your role
As Senior Python & Databricks Developer, your skills and experience will ideally include:

• Strong professional experience developing production-grade Python solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience with Databricks.
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines, data applications or data products.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with structured data.
• Experience with Apache Spark, Delta Lake and Lakehouse architecture.
• Ability to independently analyse complex or unclear requirements and shape practical solutions.
• Strong understanding of software development best practices, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing and DevOps.
• Experience improving performance, reliability and maintainability of data solutions.
• Strong problem-solving skills, an ownership mindset and sound technical judgement.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
  
  

Good to have

• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs.
• Experience with Pandas, NumPy and geospatial libraries such as GeoPandas, Shapely or H3.
• Experience with Azure services, including Azure Storage, Azure Functions and Azure API Management.
• Knowledge of Databricks Workflows, MLflow, Model Serving or Feature Serving.
• Familiarity with data-quality frameworks, observability and production support.
• Experience in catastrophe modelling, exposure management, insurance or financial services.

We offer

Compensation for roles at Zurich depends on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific role, skill set, level of experience, and subject to applicable law. Zurich thus provides a range of compensation aligned to internal job architecture and market benchmarks to ensure fair and consistent pay for comparable roles. The starting base salary range for this position is 2930 Eur.
